Advanced Sterilization Products

As a world leader in identifying and accessing promising bioprocessing technologies, BPA became interested in the chlorine dioxide generation technologies of our partner, Selective Microtechnologies, LLC (www.selectivemicro.com).

The advantages of these technologies and products for the biopharm industries are quite significant. Currently 30-40% of total operational time is unavailable to manufacturing. It is used for cleaning and sterilization. Chlorine dioxide, in liquid and gaseous forms, enables us to reclaim much of this time.

Chlorine dioxide is a broad-based cleaner and biocide with very quick kill times. It is one of the very few agents that has been recognized for having the ability to destroy biofilm in water systems. Chlorine dioxide sterilizes at ambient temperature and atmospheric pressure in both gas and liquid forms. It is quickly flushed or evacuated from a system, and leaves no residue. It is environmentally friendly and is classified as non-toxic and non-hazardous to humans. It is non-corrosive to any of the materials of construction traditionally used in the biopharm industries. Its presence, down to extremely low concentrations, is very easy to measure using inexpensive techniques.

Chlorine dioxide is versatile and has been proven effective for sanitizing and sterilizing tanks, piping, membrane filtration processes, chromatography columns, packed beds, and virtually every type of bioprocessing equipment.

It quickly disinfects water purification systems, and replaces heat and chemical treatment in bioprocess kill systems. It has been proven to offer advantages in the fumigation of rooms and isolation equipment. It is our firm belief that it will effectively sanitize HVAC systems.

Outside of manufacturing operations, chlorine dioxide can be used as a quick-acting hard surface disinfectant (EPA registration for this application) and as a component and utensil sterilizer and water purifier.

The Selective chlorine dioxide products are currently being evaluated by some of the premier companies in the biopharm industry. Contact us about your cleaning and sterilization challenges. Chlorine dioxide may very well be the solution.
